BASEMENT WATERPROOFING
A Homeowner Converting A Basement, Installing A Robust Basement Waterproofing System Is Vitally Important For Protecting The Structure Against Water Ingress. Converting A Basement Or Extending A Property Below Ground Can Be A Great Way Of Increasing The Living Space And Adding Financial Value To The Property.
TYPES OF WATERPROOFING
- Type A (Barrier) protection -a barrier to water ingress applied to the inner or outer surface of the structure.
- Type B (Structurally integral) protection- the structure is formed as a watertight construction and requires no additional protection,
- Type C(Drained) protection- water entering the structure received by planned activities and safely removed.
- Whether waterproofing a new- build basement or an existing structure, we will always recommend that the preferred waterproofing system installed.
WATERPROOFING A BASEMENT CONVERSION
The key when waterproofing a basement conversion is choosing the right products to achieve the degree of waterproofing required for the intended use of the basement.
For a below-ground waterproofing project to be successful, it requires strategies for dealing with groundwater, soil gases, and contaminants considered from the very earliest stage of the design process.
DAMP PROOFING
sometimes referred to as Basement Waterproofing. Most homeowners have problems because of cellars and basement have moisture and because there’s always a debate about which damp proofing methods work best.
BASEMENT WATER DAMAGE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM
In many houses, the cellar or basement is out of sight and out of mind. But moisture inside your foundation can have far-reaching effects. Wood -boring insects love wood been softened by the high humidity that can occur in many basements and cellar areas. Mold loves moisture, causes structured damage as wood rots and upstairs areas; many people develop respiratory ailments after breathing in the microscopic ailments.

BASEMENT FLOOR WATERPROOFING
When water is coming into your basement through the floor, it’s a sure sign that your basement subjected to water pressure.
Water is saturating the soil outside your foundation and exerting enough pressure to have it percolates up through the floor.
There are ways to waterproof a basement floor, and they based on how water gets into the basement.
Water can leak through a basement floor slab in 3 ways:
- Through the Crack Between the SLAB and the Basement. The concrete slab is poured separately from the wall, and it’s usually not possible to seal the crack between these two structural elements. We recommend installing WATER GUARD system which effectively captures water that the leaks through basement walls and the wall or floor joists. This water is conveyed to a sump pump so it can be pumped out of the house.
- Through cracks in the basement slab floor- If the basement or cellar slab has cracked in the different places, the cause of these cracks should be determined. After taking improvement measures, a permanent repair can be made to close the cracks and seal those leakage areas.
- Through the Porous Concrete of the Slab
Concrete can form a water barrier, but it’s also a porous material. When the soil is very wet, the concrete slab can absorb moisture from the soil like a sponge and release it into the basement or cellar area. It creates high moisture conditions in the basement even when there is no standing water from leaks.
NOVA BASEMENT FINISHING provides the highest quality products and job, design, and installation available in all aspects of basement waterproofing.
Our Basement Waterproofing Process
Combating a Wet Basement
The first step we take is figuring out the type of problem our clients are encountering. Then, check the grading around the home, downspouts for any leaks or pooling, and cracks in the driveway. After determining the most efficient solution, we move on to fixing all the problem area we encounter as well as patching cracks in the basement walls and floors, as water in the home can cause mold problems as well as a wet basement.
We use sealers for coating basement walls and floors. One of the most compelling reasons to use a concrete sealer is to help improve the water resistance of the slab, it offers a quick waterproofing measure that can be decorated to our clients choice. The sealers are been applied to damp surfaces
Fitting a Polyethylene Membrane
An alternative to epoxy coatings we use is a polyethylene membrane. Although it holds back water, we find it may be necessary to install channels and a sump pump to collect and remove water from behind the membrane. Our professionals can determine on whether this is required or not.
